littleBits Bubble Bot Review – by Jess

The Bubble Bot, by littleBits, is a fun way to engage your child in technology while having fun. littleBits “make the gears turn”… it is so cool to be able to connect different pieces and create cool reactions through these pieces. I want to say thank you to Allison Vanest and the whole team at littleBits for giving me the awesome opportunity to review their product. Like in my other reviews, I want to make it clear that my opinion may be different than yours… this is just my thoughts on the product. I hope that this review helps you if you are deciding if you should invest in this company.

Something that I noticed right away about this company is the packaging. They put so much care into the transportation of the product. When I opened the box, the kit was securely placed inside of it along with an air cushion that helped to avoid breakage in delivery. I love when it is obvious that a company truly cares not only about their product, but also the customer. When I opened the kit for the first time, all of the pieces were placed nicely inside of a white tray, and under this tray were additional resources for help assembling the model. Included in this set was a battery, the connector cord for the power bit, a slide dimmer bit, a bar graph, a fan, stickers, glue dots, and a holder for the assembled model. Overall, I have nothing negative to say about the packaging and the way it arrived.

***DISCLAIMER: THE SECOND PICTURE OF THE WHITE TRAY DOES NOT SHOW ALL OF THE INCLUDED PIECES. I HAD ALREADY STARTED ASSEMBLING IT AND COULD NOT TAKE IT APART!!***

Next, I will discuss my first time trying the Bubble Bot. If I had to describe my experience in one word, I would say, “wow.” As an eighteen year old, I was not expecting to get that excited about this product as it is geared more towards children. I can honestly say that I had so much fun using it once it was assembled. Below are pictures of the finished assembly of the Bubble Bot.

One thing about the pieces themselves that I thought was really cool was how bright the bar graph was. The lights were almost blinding, which could be a downside, but for me, I thought it was really cool. You would not expect something running off of a 9 volt battery alone to make much light, but it was insanely bright, and I thought that was awesome.

One thing that I enjoyed about assembling the Bubble Bot was the stickers that came with it. They really added to the fun of the building process. I named my Bot Ernie. 🙂

While I was using this product, I had one concern. I was wondering if the paper around the bottom would become soggy and therefore ruin the Bot. Luckily, the paper dried out fine, and I was able to use the product multiple times after it dried.

It is amusing to look at the pictures of me using this for the first time. I look like a child. I truly was amazed with this product, especially since the end of the Bot is a square. The bubbles were massive, and I can 100% say that I have never seen bubbles this big. Take a look below.

One thing I was disappointed with was that I could not get any bubbles to actually detach from the end of Ernie. They all became about the above size then popped. Even so, I still had a blast playing with it.

Next, let’s talk about the uses of this product. Obviously, the purpose of this gadget is to blow bubbles. But personally, I think it goes deeper than this. I think that littleBits wants to grow the minds of younger children. The company wants children to learn about how things work and connect. It stems off ideas and creativity. I think this is very important to this company, and I think that achieving this is one of their main goals.

It is honestly hard for me to come up with a list of pros and cons for this product because there are so many pros. This product is great for all ages, it engages the mind, it teaches children a little about technology, it is super fun, and the list goes on. It is really neat when you find a company that has so many positives that it is hard to find anything negative about it. The only thing I would say was a con is that I felt like I didn’t have enough stickers to achieve the pattern I was trying to do. But overall, the Bubble Bot is a great toy.

I would like to say thank you to Allison at littleBits again for hooking me up with this really cool product. If you are searching for a great gift this holiday that engages the kids and teaches them about technology, then this is the gift for you. Again, my opinions that I am conveying in this article are in no way the exact same as someone else’s, but I do hope that this gave you some insight into the Bubble Bot.
