About These Recordings...
ago I began setting scripture passages to music to aid
memorization at Northumberland Christian School. Some of the
songs are original compositions, but most of the passages are
simply set to common hymn tunes. Ten years ago I compiled many
of those songs into a Word for Word book. Since then
many alumni have expressed their gratitude for the power these
songs had to fix large portions of scripture in their minds.
Only a few
people outside the NCS family, however, have benefited from
these songs, because even though the book has been available,
most people needed to hear the songs if they were to learn
them. That realization prompted my wife and four children to
offer to help me make this recording. All four children
attended NCS from kindergarten through twelfth grade and are now
scattered around the country. We had but one morning together
over Christmas vacation when we could sing as many songs as
possible without turning back for corrections or improvements.
While we were hesitant to attempt a homemade recording under
these circumstances, we were all convinced that the point was
not for us to sound as good as possible, but for us to help
people memorize Gods Word.
the whole point of the Word for Word songs is that you
don't have to be a polished musician to be able to profit from
singing the scriptures. God commands ALL to sing, because He
has given music a peculiar power to help words stick in our
minds (Deut. 31:19). So with that end in view, we offer this
recording, with the prayer that it will be used by God to help
many people lay up large portions of scripture in their hearts
Word for Word. Then may the Sovereign Lord use His Word
as a means to the greater goal we pursue --- to delight greatly
in the Lord, who has clothed us with garments of salvation and
arrayed us in a robe of righteousness (Is.61:10).

I would like to say a special thank you to Bob Spangler for his
many hours of labor in seeking to turn our homemade cassette
recordings into CDs. Thanks, Bob, for being so willing to use
your time, equipment, and expertise to help with this project
for the glory of God!
